Category Management Association

CMKG's certified training programs:

All of CMKG's training modules are accredited by the Category Management Association (CMA).  Following is a brief overview of the CMA's certification requirements.  Click here for more information available on their site.

What does Certification mean?

Certification from the Association is the recognized, industry-wide standard that quantifies the skill level of individual category management professionals. Certificates from training firms, solution providers, and universities only meet requirements of the specific organization offering the courses and vary by company. CMKG is one of the training companies that has been accredited by the CMA.  This can give you the assurance that our training is of the highest quality and meets or exceeds industry standards.

There are three individual certification levels, including the 1) Certified Professional Category Analyst (CPCA), 2) Certified Professional Category Management (CPCM) and 3) Certified Professional Strategic Advisor (CPSA).  Each of these levels has different requirements that need to be met.

CMKG currently has accredited training available for 10 of 10 requirements in the CPCA, and 8 of 12 requirements in the CPCM.  We will have all requirements filled for all 3 certification levels by October 2010.

How can I get certified?

If you are looking for industry certification, there are two different approaches that you can take:

  • Take CMKG's learning programs or training modules for "instant accreditation" with the CMA; or
  • Submit your application for accreditation to the CMA. They will give you feedback on any gaps that may exist in your portfolio. You can then come back to CMKG to fill in any training gap requirements.
